Let him calculate the number of the beast

So I was browsing the news today, and came across this:

Now, this topic pops up every couple of years, but it's always been soundly shouted down, mostly because of it's eerie similarity to the book of Revelations. Canada pretends to be secular, but I think a lot of the supposedly secular people who run the government secretly keep a bible in their night stand. That's probably a good thing. It's saved us from being catalogued like livestock.

    Until now.

Now that Herr Harper has siezed control of the government and installed his pro-Washington cabinet, I have no doubt that we will finally see a national ID card program. All in the name of security, of course. Because, as everybody knows, "terrorists" love to show ID before they blow themselves up, it just stands to reason! So rest assured, that while the government is cataloging your recent purchases of subversive books at Chapters "for future reference", you are 100% safe from maniacs with explosives which they cooked up in their kitchens with ingredients available without ID at any hardware store.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain

How many of you have ever heard of a company called "Gilead Sciences"? I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that none of you have. Well, maybe it's time you did. (Gilead website)

I normally try to avoid ranting on about my "wacky conspiracy theories". They tend to draw in people with serious mental problems and damage what little credibility I can manage to accumulate. But some times, an issue is so important, who's implications are so mind-boggling, that I have to say something.

In 1996, this company developed and patented a drug you may have heard of recently. The drug was called "Tamiflu". As you may or may not know, Tamiflu is the only drug currently available that is possibly capable of fighting off the now infamous H5N1 strain of bird flu. Currently, only the Swiss pharmco "Rosch" is licenced to produce the drug, and is currently tied into the 8 billion USD emergency funding bill, selling roughly 2 billion USD worth of Tamiflu to the government.

So who is reaping the massive winfall of this lucrative contract? Well Rosch certainly. There isn't a drug company out there who isn't profiting from someone's misery. But who else? Well, none other than the patent holder, Gilead Sciences, and their former CEO (and largest stockholder) Donald Rumsfeld.

I'm forced to wonder just how much money Rumsfeld is earning in royalties on the sale of this drug, which has not been proven to combat H5N1. This "bird flu" panic is a media feeding frenzy for which the administration itself is chumming the waters, all in the name of padding someone in the administration's pockets. Again. Kibbles and People Bits!

According to the American Humane Society, there are approximately 65 million owned dogs in the United States. Following the traditional 10% rule for Canada, that's another 6.5 million, for a total of 71.5 million dogs.

What would happen if there was a sudden economic disruption, and even a modest 20% of dog owners could no longer afford to feed their dogs? How many would put them down, and how many would just turn them loose?

Dogs are by nature, skilled hunters and naturally form into packs. Think about that. Imagine what would happen if suddenly 14.3 million dogs were turned loose in the wild. 14.3 million skilled hunters who naturally form into packs and have *no fear whatsoever* of humans.

    Sleep well, folks.

Witness the Saudi Miracle, in all it's glory!

This is a cross-section of the mighty Abqaiq field, courtesy of Saudi Aramco. This behemoth once boasted 25 billion barrels. She has been undergoing water injection for several years now. Red is gas, green is oil, blue is water. Behold, the first pillar of the global oil economy!

We're addicted to oil? The hell you say!

So, President Bush think's America is addicted to oil, does he?

Congradulations! The last horse has finally crossed the finish line.

Honestly, how does a man like that end up with his finger on the button? Here's a newsflash, brain trust:

    WE'RE AWARE OF THAT.

Interesting that this comes on the very day that ExxonMobil announces record breaking profits, isn't it? Isn't it also interesting that Suadi Arabia is offering *three times the market value* for any offshore drilling equipment they can lay their hands on? Everyone needs to be paying very close attention. The only reason you tap an offshore well, is because your onshore wells are running at or past peak. The only reason you pay three times market value for drilling platforms is because you need that extra capacity *yesterday*.

The Ghawar field, the largest field on earth, is set to see a production decline of 50-70% over the next 30 months. In real terms, that's a loss of ~2 million barrels per day, or roughly 2.5% of global production. I'd be panicking too. Countries have been "liberated" over far, far less.

And what does that loss in production mean to you and me? Well, during the supply interruption caused by Katrina, we lost 1.4 Mbpd and prices jumped by roughly $20 or 50% per barrel. The loss of Ghawar's 2 million bpd could see prices hitting $100 by summer.

And we'll pay it, because we're addicted. We have no choice.
